Fareham and Crofton Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
Fareham & Crofton v Tichborne Park
A dismal performance in all 3 disciplines of the game lead to the Fareham and Crofton first team falling to their 3rd defeat from 7 games.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Bob Marchant put faith in his 2 openers to get the team off to another cracking start, which is seemingly becoming a signature attribute of the team.
Luke Gould didn't fail to impress again with another blistering, jug avoiding, 44. The bulk of Luke's runs as per usual, came from powerful boundaries.
The opening stand came to a close at 47 with Richard Webb falling for 4. Soon after, with the score at 59 Goulds innings came to a close. Kev Light and Callum Fleming tried to add some promise to the innings but their partnership only lasted for brief 27 runs. With Fleming's dismissal in came Tim Dix who promptly fell for 1 in an ugly run out incident with Light.
However in came Dan Berry who played his most mature innings for the season making a well crafted 36 batting predominantly with the tail.
After Lights fall on 29, the bottom 5 batsmen accumulated an unfortunate poorly 13 runs.
With more than 5 overs to bat Fareham was all out for 170 of which 32 were extras.
The opening spell with the ball was as enticing as the start with the bat. Luke Gould and Bob Marchant both scalped an opening batsmen each for a total of 9 runs. From there on in the story only went down hill.
Tichborne's number 3 M.Cheyney was 46 not out at the end of play. He was the rock of the innings as Brett Edwards and T.Allam smashed 29 and 53* respectively. Luke Gould ended up with 1-56 from 6.4, Bob Marchant was 1-30 from 6. The final wicket fell to Richard Emery who was commendable with 1-24 from 6.
Drop catches and 35 extras in 25 overs acted as massive hindrances to the Fareham goal.
Apologies go out to the owner of a blue Peugeot which ended up with a reasonable sized dent due to a lack of preparation by Kev Light for his first ball
