Fareham and Crofton Cricket Club Mens First XI v Totton & Eling II on Sat 22 May 2010 at 13:00
Fareham and Crofton Cricket Club Won by 121 runs
Match report
FIRST XI make it two wins from three.
As Bath Lane soaked in glorious golden sunshine in a perfect day for cricket, one man stood head and shoulders above the rest, creating his own glow.
Luke Gould turned his form on its head with a powerful and yet patient innings of 111, his maiden century.
After opening the innings along side Richard Webb (1), Luke persisted through an early scratchy patch to carve his innings out.
Some early woeful bowling from a very young Totton and Eling II gifted the opening pair 15 extras in the first 30 runs. The partnership of 34 was broken when Webb was caught by a blinder in the cordon. Unfortunately for the young Totton lads in came Kev Light who looked to continue his form and did so effectively. The pair put on 136 with Gould well and truly hitting his straps, 18 fours and a nicely timed six flowed fluently from the young talented leader. His hard hitting lead the team to 169 where his dream run came to an end. Light (30) soon followed him back to the pavilion. Dan Reader (9), Edd White (16), Bob Marchant (20), Dan Berry (10) and Nigel Raymond all chipped in effectively with no real risk incorporated. Marchant however was clean bowled prior to his penultimate dismissal, but his cat like ears picked up the call from the umpire of "NO BALL" and he reacted accordingly. A late collapse of 4 wickets left the side all out for 266, a formidable target. Some humour was added to the innings with Edd Stubbs generously running out his noticeably faster batting partner, Richard Emery.
The Innings of Totton and Eling II never looked to pose any major threats to the Fareham bowling attack. With only 4 batsmen reaching double figures, none of which managed to get a half century, there was alot of fun in the sun. Luke Gould again continued his Man of the Match performance claiming 2 of the top 4 batsmen, Marchant claiming the other 2. Along with the lively Richard Emery (3) and Edd Stubbs (1) the Fareham lads cleaned the floor with a youthful Totton.
Gould almost finished his day off with a catch too but it failed to stick. 111 runs and 3-44 in one match deserves a lofty applause and I prompt all to congratulate Luke on his achievement, and the ones to come.
