Portsmouth & S'sea III v Fareham and Crofton Cricket Club Mens Third XI on Sat 15 May 2010 at 14:00
Fareham and Crofton Cricket Club Won by 6 Wickets
Match report
2 from 2 as the 3’s win on cup final day.
The 3’s continued their winning start to the season against Portsmouth & Southsea 3’s at the Rugby Camp with another fine all round performance. Portsmouth won the toss and decided to bat on what looked a very dry wicket. It looked to be a good decision as Smith & Holloway had little trouble coping with Gill & Clarke’s opening salvo. With the partnership easing to 30 Fareham skipper Collins made a double bowling change that was to change the match bringing Mike Marchant (3 for 30) & himself (6 for 27) into the attack. Twenty overs later Portsmouth & Southsea’s score stood at 90 for 9. Smith was first to go with the score on 55 caught superbly by the ever reliable Davey low down on the long-on boundary; danger man Carew followed two balls later for a first ball duck stand in keeper Fisher taking a sharp catch behind the stumps. Prittipaul was next to go top edging a sweep and Davey was again in action at long on this time Holloway the victim for 28. Saunders looked comfortable but was unable to find a willing partner as wickets kept on falling at the other end Collins removing first Geasry & then Charlgs & Smith in successive balls, Marchant chipping in with the wickets of Willey and finally tops scorer Saunders for 31. Portsmouth & Southsea’s innings closed on 96 when Gill bowled Ripiner for the fourth duck of the innings.
Fareham’s reply started cautiously with Dean & Fisher struggling to score on the increasing slow pitch. Fisher departed for 5 caught at slip & Ben Kissane joined Dean and slowly but steadily added to the score. Ripiner proved to be very difficult to get away bowling his allotted 10 overs for just 11 runs. Having seen off the opening bowlers dean fell to Saunders for a painstaking 20 quickly followed by Kissane for 13. Fareham were wobbling at 40 for 3 from 23 overs. Portsmouth felt that they were back in the game and when White was bowled for 1 there confidence of completing an unlikely win grew. James Headon & Chris Davey had other ideas though punishing any loose deliveries that came their way. After a few lusty blows including a huge straight six from Headon (28 not out) the target was in sight, Davey (32 not out) hitting a six to finish the game and push Fareham past the 100 and win another point.
